Part One

Hilde Schibecker stood in the kitchen of her little house. She stirred the pitcher of lemonade and added a few icecubes. They clanked on the side of the glass as she stirred it again. She swiped her hand across her forehead. It was so hot. She felt sweat run down between her breasts. The back of her tanktop stuck to her back. She picked up the pitcher and three glasses and went out the back door. She looked at her boyfriend, Duo Maxwell as she crossed the yard . He was laying the chaise lounger. He had his arms tucked under his head. He had taken off his shirt and was just in his cut-offs. She licked her lips and said, softly," Man, you look good enough to eat."

He looked up at her and grinned, pulling his sunglasses down enough to look at her.

"Hmmm. What'd you say, babe?"

She handed him a glass of the cold lemonade, and smiled. "It's hot. Tell me again why we moved to Earth?"
She asked , as she plopped down into the wooden fan back lawn chair beside the chaise.

"Better business opportunities?"
"Hmm. OK."
She sat back and sighed.
Duo looked up at her. She was wearing a tank top and a pair of cut-offs. She looked so good, even if she was all hot.

"Hilde."
She looked at him.

"Come here."
She stood and walked over to him, setting her glass on the small table. She stood next to the chase and said, "Yeah , Duo?"

He reached up and grabbed her hand and pulled her into the chaise with him. He kissed her and held her. She looked up at his face as she laid on his chest.

"It's too hot for this." She protested ,but made no move to get up.

"Hmm. Yeah." Duo pulled her closer and they kissed again.

Heero Yuy stood in the door way and shook his head. He opened the screen and slammed the door. "You two should get a room."
"Hey, Heero. Lemonade’s on the table. Help yourself." Duo said, never taking his eyes off of Hilde.

She looked up at him and smiled,"Hi, Heero." She turned her attention back to Duo.

Heero looked at the two of them and thought of Relena.

Quatre Rababa Winner sat at his desk and looked through his paperwork. He had so much work to do now that the war was over and the gundams had been distroyed. He liked being busy. It had been so hot lately, even his air conditioning in his office couldn't keep up. He suddenly shivered and clutched at his shirt around his heart. He looked up and sighed. Something was terribly wrong, but he couldn't tell what it was.

Trowa Barton opened the door and came into the office. He noticed the look on Quatre's face. He looked up at Trowa.
"Call the others. We have trouble coming."
Trowa nodded and asked no more questions.

Meanwhile across town, in a dark quiet alley, the light shimmered and moved as if it had a life of its own. If it hadn't been so hot someone may have noticed the shimmering, but as it was, it looked just like heat rising from the ground. A cat searched through the alley, looking for its next meal, came to close to the shimmering and disappeared.

There was a sudden coldness all throught the town, Duo and Hilde Shivered as did Heero , as it passed over them .

Quatre clutched his shirt tighter, and Trowa Shivered outwardly. It was as if someone had opened a door to a freezer and left it open for a few seconds.

As soon as it happened it was over.

Part Two

Duo looked up at Heero. "What the hell was that?"

Heero shrugged his shoulders then stood. "You know I really should go see Relena, especially now that something may be wrong."

Duo nodded as he pulled Hilde closer into his embrace. "Let us know what's going on."

"Hn." Was his only comment as he turned and left.

"Oh, he of so little words." Duo chucked as he looked into Hilde's face. "You know that wasn't right, eh?"

"Hm, maybe we should call someone, Duo. We may be needed again."
"What do you mean..We?"
"Oh, come on ... don't start that again!" She sighed.

"I'm just kiddin', babe. I always want you by my side."

"Come on," she said as she pulled him to his feet. They went into the house to make the phone call.

Lady Une sat down hard in her chair after receiving this last phone call. She put her head into her hands and sighed. *what the hell did they think they were doing? Damn old fools! A rip in the time ,space continuum! How are we going to fix this one?* She leaned over and placed her head on the desk. She had to call the boys out of retirement, although she wasn't sure what they could do. She raised her head and placed her fingers on the numbers and began to type. She had no idea if moblesuits would be able to do a thing.

Heero fell asleep on the bus ride back to Relena's. He wanted to see her and hold her in his arms and kiss her silly. His lips moved ever so slowly into a small smile of anticipation. He closed his eyes and let the gentle rocking of the bus lul him to sleep. At first he was dreaming about Relena. She was beside him, holding his hand. He looked down at her. She was looking at him. They were connected. She whispered his name and squeezed his hand. Heero looked up and pulled her to him. She felt real, not just in his dream. As he kept dreaming, it changed. It became dark and disturbing. He shivered in his sleep. It was coming and it's hungry.

Heero jumped awake with a start. What the hell was that? Now he knew it was even more urgent to get back home.

At the same time:

Relena sat at her vanity trying to compose herself for this meeting. She wished Heero was here with her. She hope he would return soon. As she gazed at herself in the mirror, she zoned out. She looked around her surroundings and frowned. She had never been here before. She felt someone by her side, and looked up. Heero! She reached for his hand and took it. She could almost read his mind. He pulled her to him and held her. Then the dream? became dark and voices invaded her mind, as well as Heero's. It was coming and it was hungry. Relena's head hit the top of her vanity and she jerked back into reality. She shook her head. It was so real. She stood up and headed to her meeting , unsure of what she had seen. She would have to ask Heero if he had seen the same thing.

Duo dialed up Lady Une at the Preventers. She smiled at Duo and said, " I was just about to call you. I need you and Hilde to come to the Preventers HQ as soon as you can. Do you know where Heero is?"
Duo nodded, "Yeah, He should be headed for Relena's. And Une, we'll be there as soon as we can." They disconnected and Duo turned to Hilde. "Hilde, we have to go to Preventers HQ's."
She nodded, not really surprised, "When?"

"ASAP."

"We'll leave tomorrow, OK?"

Duo nodded and flopped down on the couch, Hilde sat down beside him. She snuggled up beside him and he wrapped his arm around her shoulder. Neither one of them felt themselves slipping into a dream state. It was like they were sharing the same dream. They stood beside each other, holding hands. The voices kept repeating over and over ...It's coming, it's coming . They became shrill and slurred. Then a deeper voice came....Your love is the key. We will help you stop this. Someone has torn the space-time continuum. We will arrive soon. Where do you wish us to go?
Both Duo and Hilde said together, "Preventers HQ's." in their dream-like state.
Ah, you are truly soul-mates. This is good. There are several in your group that are soul mates, even though they don't know it yet. Will all of your group be there.....at this HQ's?

Again as if one the pair said "Yes."
The voice faded and the shrill voice continued to shriek almost in agony. Hilde clutched at Duo's shirt, trying to stop the noise. Duo held her tighter, hoping it would help.

Then they were back in their living room on thier couch.

Hilde was still clutching Duo's shirt and he was holding her tightly. Hilde looked up at Duo, questioning him with her eyes.

Yes, he said, with a nodded of his head. She collapsed on his chest with great heaving sobs. He pulled her on to his lap and sobbed into her hair. The information was overwhelming. What did their love have to do with all of this?

Sally Po looked over at her partner and wondered what he was thinking. He was concentrating so hard, he didn't notice her come in the office. He had just talked to Lady Une and typed up some information on his desktop.

Sally came across the room and stood beside him. "WuFei?"
He jumped and turned to Sally, frowning. "Woman! Try to make more noise in the future!"

She looked at his screen and said, "What’s going on, WuFei? Space time continuum? Isn't that something out of that twenty-century TV show. 'Star Trek'? It really does exist?"

WuFei looked up at her, and nodded, "I guess so. And someone's ripped the hell out of it."

They gazed at each other for a moment, then Sally lowered her eyes. "What does it mean?"

WuFei shrugged and turned back to the screen. They both stared at it, were unaware when they, too slipped into a dream-like state.

WuFei stood by Sally. It was dark, and cold. He shivered, uncontrollably. He felt Sally reach for his hand and let her grasp it. They couldn't lose each other in here.....Where ever here was. Then he heard the voices. They sounded like children voices, screaming over and over, It's coming, it's coming. WuFei looked over at Sally, she turned to him and tried to speak. Then they were back in the office. Sally knees gave out and she dropped to the floor.

"Wha...What the hell was that?"
We Fei went to her and asked, " did you hear voices, too?"

She nodded and stood up when he helped her.

They both looked at each other and wondered what was going on.

Quatre was still sitting at his desk when Trowa returned. He had a blank look on is face as he gazed at his lover and friend. Trowa looked at Quatre with concern.

"Quatre, are you all right?"

He looked at Trowa and a small smile crossed his lips.
"Yes, I think so, but something's coming. Something we will not be able to defeat alone."
Trowa frowned and walked over to Quatre.

"What do you mean?"
"Remember that chill , like a door opening?"
"Yes."

"Well, I think it was a door opening... I just know it was."
Trowa gulped and took Quatre's hand in his and looked at his lover. "Quatre....." was all he said when he and Quatre were pulled into the dark recesses of a twisted and demented mind. It screamed in hunger, not for food, persay, but for energy, life force. It was extremely old and extremely pissed. It wanted to know who/what had pulled it from it's prison and thank them...by draining their energy. It wanted to feed....It had been soo long.. Whole planets.....solar systems had been at it's mercy. And they would again.

Suddenly as it happened , Trowa and Quatre were back in Quatre's office. Quatre was slumped over his Desk and Trowa was sitting on the floor. Quatre stirred as the phone Rang.

He looked up at it, a little disoriented.
"Hello?"

"Quatre?" Came Lady Une's voice." Are you all right?"
"He composed himself. "Yes, " He said as he saw Trowa get up from the floor, out of the corner of his eye. Trowa stood next to him and looked at Une. "We have to talk."
"Yes, I need you and all the pilots her e at Preventer HQ's as soon as possible. I have talked to Duo and Hilde. I have to get a hold of Heero yet. He's in transit right now."
"We will be there in a few hours. I have a few things to tie up."
She nodded and disconnected.

Quatre looked at Trowa. "You were there, right?" Trowa nodded. "I felt you there. What are we dealing with, Trowa?"
Trowa shrugged his shoulders, no knowing what to say.

Part Three

Lady Une looked at the two youths standing in front of her. They looked at her expectantly.

"Lady, You wanted to see us?"
"Yes, Duo." She looked down at her desk, then back at and Duo, then at Hilde. "Being you are our best pilot, I 'm sending you and Hilde out to cheek on Colony L456. It seems to be a little too quiet in that quadrant. No one has heard from the Colony in days."

Duo mouth dropped open, "No one has heard from them...nothing...not even colony noise?"

"Nothing. So I'm sending you two out to see what's going on. There's a shuttle in hander bay 24 waiting for you. I want you to go right away."

"Yes, Ma'am."

She watched them leave her office.

Duo turned to Hilde, " You go ahead to the shuttle and warm it up. I'll go get us some weapons."
As Hilde turned to go to the shuttle bay, Duo grabbed her wrist and pulled her to him. He kissed her, and let her go, "Later."

Hilde hurried to the bay and found the shuttle. She up all the supplies she thought they might need. She grinned as she put some food in the storage compartment. Duo would like a snack while they were traveling. She put some extra rations and water in the compartment, too. For some reason, it seemed like a good thing to do. She slipped on her suit and placed her helmet on her seat , as she fiddled with the controls. the shuttle was ready when she saw Duo pulling a small pull cart loaded down with weapons. She giggled and shook her head.

After Duo loaded the weapons, and got strapped in, he looked at Hilde. "Ready, Hilde?"
She nodded and Duo called for clearance.

Heero watched the shuttle take off. He looked over at Une's office. It was His and Relena's turn, now. He wondered where she would send them.

Une stood as they entered her office.
"Heero, Relena." She motioned them to sit down. "As You know we have this odd threat, well, It may not be a threat, but If it is I want you to protect the princess. You will need to stay with her 24/7, Heero. Will that be a problem?"
Heero shook head in the negative, "No. It will not be a problem."
"Good. I 'd like you to take her to a safe place that you know of and keep her there until all of this blows over."
Relena frowned, "Hey, don't I have a say in this?"

Heero looked at her and said, monotonlessly "No."

Relena shot Heero a glare and looked at Une.

"It's for your protection, Relena. "She crossed her arms and slumped into her chair. "Fine."
Heero looked at her, "Don't you want to be alone with me?" He asked her quietly.

She looked at Him, "Yes, but not in solder mode.. I want you in Heero mode..."
He nodded.

Une grinned and said, "I'll leave it to you two. Now, go."

Hilde shook Duo, "Hey, Duo. Wake up, we're here. Something's wrong! Really wrong."

She sat down and peered out the shuttle's window. The darkness was too dark. It was like a void, nothingness. There was no starlight, no light whatsoever. It dawned on Hilde and she said it out loud, "It’s like a black hole."

Duo frowned and looked at the darkness. "Hey, where's the colony?"
"It should be here." Hilde paused, looking down at the panel lights. "Oh, God.!"

She turned to Duo, reached over and grabbed his suit. "It's moving toward us, Duo! GET US OUTTA HERE! NOW!"
He looked over at Hilde and saw the panic in her face. He suddenly felt her fear and started to hit buttons and switches, "I’m tryin', babe!"

The shuttle started to turn and move away from the darkness. Just as the shuttle picked up speed, it was like the darkness reached out and engulfed the shuttle, pulling it into it.

Both Hilde and Duo looked at each other and clasped hands as the dark engulfed the shuttle.

"Here we go, babe. Now we'll know were the colony went." He looked over at her. "I love you, Hil."
"Yeah, I guess. I love you, too, Duo."

The darkness silently creeped forward.

****************

In the communication center at Preventer Headquarters:

A surprised voice of tech hollered. "We've just lost contact with Preventer shuttle 24!"

Part Four

~~~~~~

Quatre dropped to his knees and clutched his shirt around his heart. He groaned and leaned over so that his forehead touched the floor. He could feel the pain, fear and almost bliss of the person he was sensing.

Then he whispered, "Duo."

Heero picked Relena's bags and carried them to the car. He had the perfect place for her. It was in the city and there would be thousands of people around her. But if these "people" were what he thought they were, this would be pointless. They would find her anyway, but he wouldn't let her go without a fight.

Hilde opened her eyes. The shuttle was dark , the only light coming from the console. A green light was blinking. She reached over to push it. She realized her hand was still connected to Duo's. She looked over at him. He didn't seem awake. She disconnected her harness and stood, moving closer to him.

"Duo?" She asked, as she shook him. "Hey, honey, wake up."
He groaned and opened his eyes, "Are we dead? Is this heaven?.." He mumbled.

"I don't think we're dead... and any where with you is heaven."

He grinned at her and unhooked his harness, too. He stood and pulled her close. " So where are we?"
"I don't know," came her reply.

They peered into the darkness. It was a deep dead dark. Not a natural darkness.... more like a self made darkness. The shuttle was warm and cold all at the same time. Hilde shivered. She looked up at Duo. He was staring into the darkness with blank eyes.

"I see something....." He said, softly, almost a whisper.

"What?"
He stood total still, almost as if he was being controlled by someone. He turned to Hilde and grabbed her hard by her shoulders and pushed her in her seat.

Hilde was shocked by his actions and sat down hard.

"I have to kill you, they only want me." He whispered to her.

"What? Duo.... Snap out of it! This isn't you!" She shouted at him, struggling against his grip on her shoulders. She could see his eyes were glazed over and they had lost their violet shine. He let go of one of her shoulders and reached for her neck. As he moved closer, Hilde gulped but knew what she had to do.

As Duo came closer to her, his face almost in her, she kneed him hard in the groin.

He looked at her in shock as the light came back to his eyes as he let go of her .

He dropped his hand to his center and his face fell into her lap.

"Hilde." He gasped, "What did you do that for?"
She put her hands on his head and gently played with his hair.

"You were under the control of something. They wanted you to kill me."
He looked up at her, his eyes filled with pain, "I think I remember that... something about a test of wills, but, Hilde, you didn't have to do this. I wouldn't have killed you."
"I'm sorry, Duo. I was afraid, you know self-preservation and all."

He moved his hands and wrapped his arms around her. "Damn, girl, try to remind me never to make you mad at me."

She giggled, and said, "I’m really sorry, Duo....But..."

Suddenly the shuttle was filled with bright light and there was a presence there. It was tall and forbidding looking. It had no resemblance to a human whatsoever and there was no describing it either. It was there but it wasn't.

Duo looked up at it, "What do you want?" He asked angrily, "You tried to control me and make me kill my girlfriend!"

There was silence.

Duo stood up, pulling Hilde up with him. He had one hand in a fist, and his other latched to Hilde's waist.

"Well, Answer me ! Where's the colony? WHAT DO YOU WANT?"

More silence.

The a voice came into both their heads, "Yes, you will do nicely."

Duo and Hilde looked at each other, the shock on their faces evident, "Did you hear that?" They asked each other in unison.

There was a chuckling, and the voice said, "Please don't fear us... You mean you no harm. We are sorry for the controlling of you, Young Maxwell. And to you, Young Schibecker. We had to know how you would react. You did well."
Duo was still angry and he said so, "Yeah, so what ! You can control us anytime, so how can we trust you not to do it again? Why should we trust you at all? You took a colony. Where is that colony?"

"Colony?" The voice sounded confused for a moment, then, replied. "Oh, the floating home, with your kind on it. They are safe. Would you like to see?"

Duo looked at the shimmering object and glared. "Yes!"

With a wave of it's 'hand', the darkness was gone and the colony was revealed. Suddenly the console began to beep. Hilde walked to it and hit it.

Voices chattered away, some frantic, some calm. One even yelled about a Preventer shuttle and rescue.

Hilde hit the communication button and said, " This Preventer shuttle #24. Is everyone OK there? The colony all right? No damage?"
"Preventer Shuttle #24! We are glad you are here. Everything seems to be OK. Are you going to be able to help us?"

"I'm sorry, at this time we are not in the position to help anyone." * Not even ourselves, * She thought bitterly.

"Well, OK. I guess that's all for now."

Hilde shut off the communicator and turned to their 'hosts/ capturers', and asked, "What now?"

"Come with us. You will be returned to your own dimension soon. But we need you first."

Duo and Hilde were no longer in the shuttle. They were standing a field, surrounded by blue grass and a variety of multi -colored flowers.

"Blue grass?" Hilde asked and knelt to it. She rubbed her hands across it and looked at Duo. "Duo, feel it. It feels like grass, Like Our grass."

He knelt down beside her and felt it. He looked at her with wonder on his face, "What is this place?"

Part Five

Trowa found Quatre on the floor. He went to him and pulled him off the floor.
"Quatre! Are you OK?"
Quatre swallowed and nodded, "Yes. I think so. I felt Duo, and I think I felt Hilde, too. They are alive Trowa, but they are not here. Somewhere else. I think they are OK. Trowa, there is something coming other that what's already here. I don't know if we can stop it."
"Come on, let's talk to Lady Une. We'll worry about the other thing later."

Quatre nodded as Trowa lead him from the room.

Heero looked over at Relena. She was standing by the door. She was tapping her foot impatiently.

"Let's go, Heero! No dragging your feet. I'm bored and I want to go out!"

He sighed and stood up and went to the door.

"All right ,but only for a little bit."

"Fine! Anything is better than being cooped up in here 24/7."

They left the apartment and started to walk down the street.

"Let's go to a movie," Relena suggested as she took Heero's arm.

"Hn."

"I'll take that as a yes."

Hilde sat in the blue grass, looking up at the green sky. She had plucked one of the stems of grass and twiddled it through her fingers. She frowned and looked at it again. She held it up.

"Duo, Look! This grass is three sided!" She looked at him. "There is only one explanation for this! WE ARE DEAD!"
"Hun, what do you mean? " Duo asked as he watched a bug crawl over his hand to his finger. He looked up at Hilde.

"Well, You know octum's Rasor?"*
"Yeah, the one about the simplest answer usually being the right one?"
"Yeah, this is all too weird, we have to be dead."
"Hmmm."

Duo continued to watch the bug. His mouth dropped open, as the bug opened it's mouth and bit down on his finger. The bug had a mouth of razor sharp teeth.

"Ow!" He howled as he smacked the bug and stuck his finger in his mouth. "Well, Hilde, I don't know about us being dead, but the bugs bite."

"What? Oh, let me see." She said as she grabbed his finger. She looked at the small wound. "God, That was a bug? Sheesh, look at the teeth marks!" She looked up at Duo. "We need more answers. I don't know why we are here but, I'm not helping till we get more information."

"I don't know how we can do that, Hilde. They can control us, without us even knowing. They could make us do anything they wanted."
She got up on her knees and leaned into his face. "Duo. We'll have to try to fight it." She then put both her hands on his shoulders and pushed him down into the grass. He grinned as she laid on top of him. She leaned up and kissed him. He wrapped his arms around her and kissed her back.
"I love you," She mumbled into his ear.

"Me, too." He whispered back to her.

They laid there on the triangle shaped grass, with the multi-colored flowers and the biting bugs.

"So, where are we going to sleep tonight? I don't think this meadow will do. We don't know what kinda creatures roam this planet at night."

"You're right." They both sat up. Duo called the aliens. "Hey, guys, are you gonna leave us out here all night?'

No answer.

"Hey!!!"
Duo shrugged his shoulders." They are not listening.''

"Losers."

Heero went to the lobby to find Relena. She had slipped out of the movie,and was probably wondering the mall. Heero sighed, *How come she exasperates me all the time?* Another thought popped into his head, *She does it on purpose. *

He looked around and started to walk the mall. He peered down the isles and thought he saw the honey-blonde girl. He watched her as she turned around and looked behind her.

"Relena."

She spotted him and stopped. He walked faster. As he got closer she turned on her heel and walked in the other direction. He hurried to get to her. She had walked into a service area of the mall. No one would be in there. He frowned. Where was she going? He turned the corner and saw her there one moment and gone the next!

"WHAT THE ......RELENA!"

Relena turned and saw Heero chasing her. She giggled and ran farther away. As she turned to face Heero she stepped back and fell through something. She gasped as she fell into blue grass.

She sat up and looked at the grass, then at the sky....

"Where am I? B.....blue grass? Green sky? Oh....Heero...Where are you? " She stuttered as she promptly fainted.

Part Six

~~~~~~

Heero watched as his girlfriend/ward disappeared. His face lost the normal neutrality. His eyes got wide and his mouth dropped open. He stopped dead in his tracks. He tried to compose himself, but for the first time in his life he couldn't. He was totally at a lost for what happened. He stood still, not moving. He blinked his eyes. He pinched his arm.
"Ow." This was real. He looked around. It was quiet. Too quiet. It was like the mall was suddenly empty. He looked around. He took a deep breath and walked toward the last place he had seen Relena.

The perfect solder wasn't so perfect, and it took something strange to make him see it.

He stopped and looked around. He pulled his gun out. He was still shaken about what he had seen. He put his gun in front of him and walked toward the wall. His eyes got wide again as he watched his arm disappeared. He pulled it back quickly. He still had an arm. And his gun.

"WHAT THE HELL?" He did it again. He shook his head and made a decision. Relena was beyond this..whatever. He put his gun in front of him again and walked forward.

The two aliens watched the two humans in the grass.

"So, you think these Humans can help us?"

"Yes, I think they can. But not in the way you think."

"Hmm?"

"I think we will be able to control them and make them do as we wish."
The female alien looked at her male counterpart. "I really don't think that we should underestimate them." She spoke, softly. "They are quite strong willed."

He looked at her. "Not as strong as us."

She looked at him and thought to herself. * This will be your downfall. *

"What of the floating home?"
"Take the humans from it and distroy it."

"Are you sure this is what you want to do? It seemed rather important to those two."
She pointed to the monitor, at Duo and Hilde in the grass.

He shrugged, "We'll kill them all when we are done, So it won't matter."

She turned back to the monitor. She didn't like this one bit. This was never their purpose in them being here. They were to stop the doomsday creature, not enslave the humans. She looked back at him. He turned from her and was leaving, when she said, softly. "One of the other's is here. Her male counterpart will be here shortly."
"Good. Collect them all and take them to the ship." He turned, then paused. "And tell them nothing."

Hilde rolled off Duo and laid in the grass.
"This is so weird."

"Yeah." He raised his arms above his head, then tucked them under his head. He looked over at Hilde. " You know, babe. We should be taking advantage of this."
